Setting up android phone for the first time
Insert a SIM Card
Your first step should be to insert a SIM card to your phone’s SIM slot. The process seems simple but can be tricky sometimes. Different devices have different types of SIM card slots. Smartphones from Sony have SIM flaps where the Samsung phones have their SIM slots under the back panel. Some of the latest Samsung phones like Galaxy J7 Prime have a SIM tray which can be opened by their specific SIM tray opening tool. Before inserting SIM cards to your android, you better read the user manual to get a better idea about how to insert a SIM correctly. Insert your SIM card carefully and correctly and turn on your phone. To turn on your phone you need to press and hold the power key. The power key usually found at any side of your phone.
Set a default language
When you turn on your android phone for the first time, it will greet you with a welcome screen. In this screen, you have to select your default language. Access the list of the available languages by clicking on the preset language name or the arrow icon depending on your phone. Once you have selected your language, tap on the next to go to the next step.
Select a Wi-Fi Network
In this step, you will be asked to select a WiFi network. A list of all available networks will be shown to you. Select a WiFi network from the list and go to the next steps. Though you can skip this step also but I recommend not doing this if you have any available networks. Because, if you skip this step your phone will use mobile data for initial downloads and updates.
Login to your Google account
Now, in this step, you need to verify your account by signing in with your existing Gmail account. If you do not have a Gmail account you can also use your phone number to login to your device. I suggest you use your Gmail account if you have one as it is almost essential to enjoy all android features.
Set your Payment Method
In the next some steps you will be asked whether you want to allow apps to your location history and usage data or not. Uncheck the boxes next to the options if you don’t want to allow and click next. Here android will ask you to set your default Payment Method. Set your payment method to buy items from the play store. If you do not want to set one, select ‘Not now’ and tap next.
Add another Email account
In this step, you can add another email account to get emails and protect your phone. You can add an email from Yahoo, outlook and many other service providers. You can also add exchange accounts like Microsoft exchange. Or you can simply skip this process by selecting ‘Not now’ again and tapping next.
Restore your data from another device
Here your Gmail account which you used to login to this device will play the key role. If you have used this Gmail account with another android device in past, your phone will ask you to restore apps and data from that device. You can restore data by tapping on the device name. If this is your first android phone this step will not be shown to you.
Secure your phone with a PIN, Password or Fingerprint
You should always protect your device by securing it with a strong PIN or password. If your phone has a physical fingerprint scanner, you should enable this feature in this step. You can skip this step also. But, I recommend you to set an unlock method from settings after setup. Because your phone contains your sensitive information and data.
Get Google Now
In the further step, you might be asked to get Google Now on your phone. This feature of android is awesome and must have feature. Scroll to the bottom and select the option ‘Yes, I’m in’. Now tap on next to finish the setup process.
