You can change almost everything in Android including wallpapers, themes, fonts and even icons. Moreover, you can install and use a separate launcher app as home screen. Sounds a bit difficult? How to Customise Android Phone
Customise home screen
Bored with seeing same home screen every time you pick up your android? Why don’t you customise it to get a better user interface? In android, you can customise its home screen with ease. Customising home screen includes changing wallpapers, app shortcuts, changing icons as well as entire user interface. Customizing makes your user interface personal and eye-catching.
Here are the tips to customise your android home screen.
Change your wallpaper
Changing the wallpaper is the best and easiest way to give your phone a new look. Wallpapers are the first thing we see on our home screen. Choose a wallpaper from your gallery or use standard wallpaper app by google. Wallpapers reflect your personality hence choose wisely. Do not use the wallpaper which melts with your app shortcuts and widgets.
Steps to change wallpaper
- Tap and hold your empty home screen
- Tap on wallpaper
- Choose from recent or preloaded wallpapers by scrolling left to right
- Tap on my photos to choose a wallpaper from your own gallery
Note: You can also set any of your images as wallpaper directly from your gallery. Just tap on the three buttons icon and select ‘set as’ or ‘use as’ option depending on your gallery app.
Add widgets and app shortcuts
Nicely adding widgets and app shortcuts on your home screen makes it even more elegant. It not only allows you to access apps with one tap but also changes the looks of your home screen.Place widgets and app shortcuts on your home screen intelligently. Do not scatter them randomly as it will make your android look messy. You can make a folder of similar app shortcuts to access them easily.
Here are the tips to add widgets and app shortcuts.
- Tap and hold your empty home screen
- Tap on the widgets to find all widgets
- Browse them and choose your desired widget
- Tap and hold the widget and drop it on the home screen
- You can change its position anytime by holding them and dropping at the desired place.
Add App shortcuts
- Go to your app drawer
- Tap and hold any app’s icon
- Drop the icon at desired place on your home screen
- You can change their position any time just like the widgets.
Want to customise your user interface even more such as changing fonts and icons, applying themes etc.? Android does not allow to apply these settings at least within its default launcher. However, you can install a third party launcher to enable these facilities. I have many friends who never use android’s default launcher. Instead, they install and use a launcher app like GO Launcher or Hola launcher. Check out my post top 5 best launcher apps for android and choose a launcher which suits you most. You will feel the power of real customization only after installing a third party launcher.
Customise lock screen with locker apps
Yes, you can customise your lock screen also. There are plenty of locker apps available in android play store. One of the best among them is GO Locker from GO Dev Team X. It is by far the most customizable locker app with the security feature, notifications, changeable background, unlocking effects and much more. You can apply themes to experience an awesome way to unlock your android phone.
Notifications are the best way to get informed about an activity or event. But, not all notifications are useful. Some of them are useless and irritating for us. Android gives you the option to block these or all notifications. You can easily customise the notifications of every individual app. Whether you want to block all notifications or turn on the treat as priority option for any app notifications. You can do it all in android without much hassle. Treat as priority means when your phone is set to Do not disturb mode the notification of that particular app will be shown to you. Read my step by step guide on how to disable app notifications in android to customise notifications.
Choose default apps
Just like a PC or MAC, you can set default apps for individual file types in Android. You can not set or change default apps normally in iOS or windows phone. This is the exclusive smartphone feature of android. The feature makes the android a playful operating system. Though, google’s own apps are awesome and rich in features. But, sometimes we need more power in our hands. For example, built-in camera app in android is cool but when we compare it with the Camer 360, it looks like an immature kid.
