Millions of apps are available in the Google Play Store to install and use, however, there are some apps which are not available for some reasons. These unavailable apps are quite useful to android users. This is where installing an app directly from the web becomes useful and must have feature for any android device. As android knows what we want, it has the feature to install apps on android directly from the web. If you know programming well, you can also develop your own app and install it on your android device.
Here are the steps to install apps on android directly from the web-
Step-1. Getting ready
If you are using Android 4.0 or higher go to settings, scroll down to Security and turn on ‘Unknown Sources’ by sliding the button next to it. This will allow you to install apps on android directly from the web. Do not forget to turn off this feature after you have installed the desired app. This will prevent accidental installs of any harmful app from the web.
Step-2. Find and Download
Your next step will be to find the app which you want to sideload. Sideloading means installing an app from outside of the Google Play Store. To sideload an android app, you need its Android Application package which is commonly known as APK file. It can be found either using your computer or your android device’s browser. I recommend using your phone’s browser, as it will save both your time and your efforts. Make a google search from the browser for the APK file and download it. One thing you must consider that the sources of the APK files should be trusted developers and companies.
Step-3 Install the APK file
If you have downloaded the APK file on your computer, transfer it to your android using USB or any other method. Now get to the transferred APK file using your phone’s file manager. Click on the file to install it. Android may prompt you to install only from trusted sources. Click the Okay button below and the app will be installed on your Android device.
If you have Downloaded the APK file using your phone’s browser, a notification confirming download can be seen in the notification drawer. You can install the app by clicking on the notification and choosing install option.
It is recommended that you should use this feature only to install the apps, which are unavailable in Google Play Store. Using this feature to install paid or untrusted apps will be harmful to your phone.
